Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing) rode from the third row to the race win at Misano, after a superb performance in front of his fellow Italian spectators. With many passes and changes being made all through the race Biaggi eventually had to ride hard at the end to defend from another lowly starter, Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) who finished second, having started 16th.

Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) secured a combative third place, with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) fourth after riding up front to start, then dropping to seventh for a time. He overhauled long time race leader Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team).
